1.0 OVERVIEW

The Business Library is located on the fifth floor of the Robert James Terry Library. It has a seating capacity of approximately 80-90 with a partial open stack arrangement. All materials in the collection deal primarily with business and economics. The library is an integral part of the instructional and research program of the School of Business. It has nearly 50,000 bound volumes, books and periodicals, thousands of microforms and some 500 current journals, online access to scholarly databases, electronic texts including CD-ROM databases. It also has other serial titles such as: the latest business and economic indexes, directories, business and financial services including vertical file materials, corporate annual reports and other financial statements.

2.0 BOOK COLLECTION

The general book collection is classified and arranged according to the Library of Congress Classification System - HB-HJ (Business and Economics); KF (Business Law); and Z49-Z99 (Word Processing, typing, etc). Materials in the general book collection do circulate and may be checked out at the Circulation Desk on the first floor with a current valid TSU identification card.

Reference books may not be checked out and must be used in the library. These books are located on the northwest side of the floor in the front of the study carrels and they are directly related to the subject areas in the Business Library.

3.0 PERIODICALS, NEWSPAPERS AND MICROFORMS

The library has a very h5 periodical, newspaper and microform collection. In addition to receiving over 500 business and financial journals, the library also receives a number of daily newspapers such as the Wall Street Journal, Financial Times and the Houston Business Journal. Bound periodicals are located on the southeast side of the floor shelved in alphabetical order by title. Current periodicals and newspapers are kept in Room 550. This room also contains: microform copies of periodicals and newspapers, microform reader/printers, corporate information file, and vertical file. Room 550 is also a closed stack area. Library users are permitted in Room 550 to use the microform reader/printer upon the presentation of a current valid TSU identification card.

5.0 INDEXES Indexes to periodicals offer access to articles by subject or by author. Periodical indexes cover many subject fields in business and economics. Some of the indexes are:

  • Business Education Index
  • Wall Street Journal Index
6.0 DIRECTORIES AND FINANCIAL SERVICES

A large number of directories, business and financial services and other continuations are located on the right side of the Information Desk on the counter height shelving in Corporate Information Island with titles such as Million Dollar Directory, and the Standard and Poor's Register.

The library also maintains a corporate microfiche system known as the SEC files. It contains annual reports and other financial information on more than 4,500 primate and public companies from 1970 to date. These materials do not circulate.

7.0 INFORMATION DESK

The Information Desk is the primary public service point for the Business Library. The Business Library staff will answer reference questions, assist in locating materials, and give bibliographic instruction to users. Kept behind the Information Desk is a group of materials known as Ready Reference books such as the World Almanac, Standard Industrial Classification Code, Resume Books, etc.
