As a “One-Stop Shop” for ALL campus housing needs at Texas Southern University, the office will provide students with access to all information, reservations, and housing assignments for any Texas Southern housing facility or apartment complex.  We believe this single operation will help save you time while addressing your housing needs more efficiently.

The new University Housing Office will open on June 1, 2009. It will be located inside the main office of the Tierwester Oaks Complex located at 3505 Blodgett Street and will be open from 8:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M., Monday through Friday.  Students and their parents can reach the housing staff by calling 713-313-7206.

Reservation Deadline:  July 1, 2009, is the deadline to ENSURE that you have housing for the Fall 2009 semester.  Be sure you submit ALL of your required documentation by the deadline to complete your housing application.  Please call the housing office or proceed to access other links on this site for the housing application and checklist to make sure you are following the necessary steps to obtain housing.  Assignment confirmation letters will be mailed beginning July 1 to all applicants who have properly completed the application process.

Housing Priorities:  For the 2009-2010 school year, housing assignments will be based upon priorities mandated by the University’s Academic Village. The University’s Academic Village priorities are as follows:

1) Freshman students will take 1st priority for residential community assignment.
2) Sophomore students will take second priority.
3) Junior students will take third priority.
4) Seniors students will take fourth priority.

Over the course of this summer, the university is initiating an aggressive renovation plan to repair the Lanier Hall Complex.  Lanier Hall will re-open in the fall of the 2009-2010 academic year, providing an additional economic housing option for students.

Additional Housing Available:  Texas Southern University has also contracted with the Savoy Apartments as a part of the university’s housing portfolio to handle overflow from our on-campus facilities.  The Savoy Apartments provides quad occupancy in 2 bedroom / 2 bath apartments and is located less than 1 mile from the campus.  Transportation to the campus is included in the lease. We are excited to offer accommodations at the Savoy at an economical rate.  The Savoy Apartments offers a multitude of amenities including a swimming pool, clubhouse, and a weight room.  Juniors and seniors will be given priority for assignment at this location.

FOOD PLAN REQUIRED FOR ALL RESIDENTIAL STUDENTS:  All students who reside in Texas Southern University sponsored housing must purchase a meal plan beginning Fall 2009.  Freshman Plan:  New and transfer freshman students must accept the mandatory board plan for 19 meals or 14 meals per week as part of their lease agreement.  The 19-meal plan includes three meals per day, Monday – Friday, and brunch and dinner on Saturday and Sunday, the 14 meal plan includes 2 meals per day Sunday -- Saturday.  Sophomore-Senior Plan: All other students (sophomores – seniors) living in TSU housing are required to participate in one of the five (5) meal plans offered by the university. If a student has not chosen a meal plan by the first class day, the Residential Life and Housing Office will assign him/her with a 9-meal per week plan. Please visit the housing website to access the housing pricing information for all of our housing and meal plan options.

We are excited about the changes we are making in housing at Texas Southern University.  These changes are being made to better serve you.

Thank you.
